Wages for Housework: The Marxist-Feminist Case for Basic Income

This article explores the Marxist-feminist critique of capitalism International Feminist Collective (IFC) the1970s and its Wages for Housework (WfH) campaign. WfH theorists, including Mariarosa Dalla Costa, Selma James, Silvia Federici, Marie Mies Claudia von Werlhof, combine Marxist feminist perspectives to articulate a compelling designed unite entire working class, both waged unwaged workers. I argue that, despite movement’s seemingly narrower slogan, demand was an implicit argument unconditional, individual, universal basic income. Like other historical precedents contemporary income movements, campaign unsuccessful in achieving policy goal. Despite failure, identification housewives as workers, extension concept housewife precarious workers globalized economy, strategic deficiencies mainstream class movements are critical contextualizing debates on development successful strategies movements.
